2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Comes After Poor Response
Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed employees about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to address gamer demands.
A Pattern of Key Hires
The news follows a similar move taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.
Here is the full text from Ismailer's communication:
Dear Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a message, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative designers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to endure.”
Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but made clear we still had work to do. It revealed the requirement for a clearer vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the feedback to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its ambition to our players.
Our confidence in this project strengthens every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the incoming Studio Head of the team. Following several months of discussions, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.
Ben’s leadership and background in the PVP shooter field is considerable, having devoted the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most well-known series in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in welcoming Ben in the coming days. We are all eager to persist witnessing the progress of the game in the months to come.
The President
