The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video soon, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season presents a large cast of characters living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The community's expectations for the new season differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner stated recently. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season moves, and how many of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
